おはようございます。現在私達は、非常に不確実な世界に生きています。戦争があり、経済の問題があり、それらは絶え間なく変化しています。私達は日々、何を信じてどう生きるのか、成功するとはどういうことかについて様々な意見を耳にしています。

Social media, culture, and even our own desires are all saying, “Follow this way.”

ネットの情報や社会の文化、私達がああしたい、こうしたいという願望さえも、これについてきなさい、と言われているようです。

But in the middle of all these voices, Jesus gives a simple and clear invitation:

“Follow me.”

しかしこのような様々な声の中で、イエスはシンプルで明快な一言で私達を招かれます。

それは「私についてきなさい」です。

Today, I want to share how these words have changed my life—and how they can change yours.

本日この言葉がどのように私の人生を変えてきたか、またあなたの人生をも変えていくかをお話しします。

本日の聖書箇所でイエスはシモンとアンデレに「私についてきなさい」と言われました。

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

もう一カ所ではこう言われました。「だれでもわたしについてきたいと思うなら、自分を捨て、自分の十字架を負うて、わたしに従ってきなさい。自分の命を救おうと思う者はそれを失い、わたしのために自分の命を失う者は、それを見いだすであろう」

In these verses, we see something very important. Jesus is calling His disciples to follow Him. At the beginning, they don’t fully understand where He is going or what following Him will cost.

この2カ所から重要なことを見ることが出来ます。イエスはご自分の弟子達に対してイエスについてくるようお召しになりました。弟子達は始めイエスがどこに行くのか、ついていくのにどの位のコストがかかるのか十分理解してはいませんでした。

Jesus simply says, “Follow me,” and they respond. Maybe it was curiosity. Maybe it was something in His voice. But they got up and they followed. But as time goes on, Jesus begins to make it clear. Following Him is not easy, and it is a life-time commitment.

イエスはただシンプルに「私についてきなさい」と言われたのです。弟子達はそれに答えました。それはおそらく単なる好奇心からであったかも知れません。イエスの声の中に何かを感じたのかも知れません。彼らは立ち上がってイエスについて行きました。そして追々、イエスはその意味を明らかにされました。イエスについて行くとは簡単なことではありませんでした。それは弟子達の生涯を捧げることであったのです。

In the second passage, Jesus emphasizes the requirement commitment. He shows them that following Him requires everything. He says, if you want to follow me, you must deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me. In other words, nothing else can come first. Not your plans, not your comfort, not evenyour own desires.

2つめの聖書箇所でイエスは献身を強く求めます。弟子達の人生全てを捧げることを要求しています。イエスは「だれでもわたしについてきたいと思うなら、自分を捨て、自分の十字架を負うて、わたしに従ってきなさい」と言われました。これはつまりイエス以上に大事なものがあってはならないということです。あなたの計画や心地よさ、あなたの望む何であっても、それらをイエスより優先させてはならないというのです。

Jesus is calling them and us to turn away from a self-centered life and live for God’s purpose. This is not a small commitment. This is a life-changing decision. When we say, “I am a Christian,” we are not just saying we believe in Jesus, we are saying we are following Jesus.

 イエスは弟子達や私達に、自己中心の生活から神の目的のために生きる人生への転換を求めておられます。これは少しばかりの献身ではありません。これは人生を変える決断です。もし私達が「私はクリスチャンです」と言うのなら、それは単にイエスを信じているだけではなく、イエスについて行きますということなのです。

We are saying: “My life is no longer my own.” “I want to live like Jesus.” “I want to live for Jesus.” In my own life, there was a time when I knew these words, but I was not really living them.

私達は「私の人生はもはや私だけのものではない」とか｢イエスのように生きたい｣とか「イエスのために生きたい」と言うことがあります。私はその言葉は知ってはいましたが、実際の私はその通りに生きてはいませんでした。

 

Head Knowledge vs Heart Faith　頭の知識 対 心の信仰

Like many of you, I was going to church. I understood the Bible. I believed it was true. From the outside, I looked like a Christian. I went to church, tried to be kind, and did good things. But inside, something was wrong. I felt empty. I had no peace. I didn’t know my true purpose.

皆さんと同じように私は教会に通っていました。聖書を理解していました。聖書に書かれていることが本当であると信じていました。外見的には私はクリスチャンでした。教会に通って人に親切にしようと努力し、実際良い行いをしていました。しかし心の中は違っていました。私は虚しかったのです。心に平安がありませんでした。私は生きる本当の目的を知らなかったのです。

One day at church, I asked myself: “Why do I feel so empty if I am a Christian?” I knew the gospel:

  • I am a sinner

  • I need to repent

  • Jesus died and rose again

ある日私は教会で自分に問いました。「私はクリスチャンなのにどうしてこんなに虚しいのか。私は福音を知っている。つまり、自分が罪人であること、悔い改めが必要なこと、イエスは死んで復活されたという福音を知っている」

I believed all of this, but something was not right. Then I realized: I had knowledge in my head, but I had not trusted Jesus with my life.

私はこれら全てを知っているのに何かおかしい。そして私は頭で知識としては知っているが、イエスに信頼した人生を送っていないことに気づいたのです。

ローマ人への手紙10章17節で｢信仰は神の言葉を聞くことによる｣と書かれています。これは椅子に譬えるとこうです。ある椅子があったとして、あなたは、これは丈夫な椅子だとか、この椅子は重さに耐えるから信頼できるなどと言ったとしても、あなたが実際にその椅子に座らなければ、本当に椅子を信頼したことにはならないのです。

That day in the church, I realized that I knew about Jesus, but I wasn’t following Him.

その日教会で、私はイエスを知ってはいたが、本当に彼にしたがってはいなかったことに気づきました。

 

Decision to Follow　従う決断

That day, I prayed: “God, I believe the Bible. I believe Jesus died for me. From today, I want to follow you.” I didn’t understand everything, but I made one decision: I would let the Bible guide my life.

私はその日祈りました。｢神様、私は聖書を信じます。イエス様が私のために死んでくださったことを信じます。あなたに従って行きたいと思います。私は全てをわかっているわけではありませんが、聖書が導くままに自分の人生を歩んでいきます」と祈ったのです。

Jesus doesn’t just say “Believe in me.” He says, “Follow me.”

イエスは単に「私を信じなさい」とだけ言われたのではなく、「私についてきなさい」と言われます。

To follow Jesus means:

  • Deny ourselves

  • Give Him control

  • Trust His plan over our own plan

He is not only our Savior, He is Lord.

イエスについていくとは次のことです。

・自分自身を否定すること

・自分の主導権をイエスに渡すこと

・自分の計画ではなく神の計画に信頼を置くことです。

イエスこそ唯一の救い主、主であられるのです。

My Plan vs God’s Plan　私の計画 対 神の計画

In college, I studied computer programming and planned to work for a big company and make money. But God had a different plan.

大学で私はコンピュータのプログラミングの勉強をしていました。卒業後は大企業で働いてお金を稼ぎたいと思っていましたが、神の計画は違っていました。

 

Ministry in China　中国での宣教　

After a few years of working in the business world, God gave me the opportunity to go to China as a missionary. It wasn’t comfortable. There were pollution, difficult living conditions, and poor medical centers.  But something surprising happened: I had joy and peace.

私は数年間ビジネスの世界で働き、神は私に宣教師として中国へ行く機会を与えました。それは私にとって心地良いものではありませんでした。環境は汚染され、生活は不自由で、医療機関も十分ではありませんでした。しかし驚いたことに、私はそこで楽しく平和に過ごすことが出来たのです。

One of our main ministries was teaching the Bible to pastors and church leaders. Because of government restrictions, we couldn’t meet openly. I would travel alone for 3–4 days to a remote city. Before leaving, I turned off my phone. I had no contact with anyone. When I arrived, I met someone at a prearranged place. From there, they quietly took me to another location.

中国での働きの一つは現地の牧師や教会の指導者に聖書を教えることでした。政府の弾圧で私達は自由に会うことは出来ませんでした。私達は3,4日かけて離れた場所にいかなければなりませんでした。出発前、私は携帯の電源を切って誰とも連絡を取れない状態にします。約束した場所に着くとある仲介者と会い、彼は私を更に別の場所に連れていくのです。

I often didn’t know where I was. We stayed inside for several days. Curtains closed. No phones. People came in small groups as to not attract attention. People left in small groups. I stayed inside the whole time.

ほとんど、私はどこに連れて行かれているのかわかりませんでした。私は建物内に数日間滞在しました。電話は通じません。牧師や教会の指導者は数人ずつそっと誰にも気づかれないようにして来て、帰っていきました。私はほぼ外出せず、室内にいました。

We sat around a small table with our Bibles open, studying for hours—sometimes 6 to 8 hours a day. We prayed together and talked about ministry. Many of these pastors had already faced persecution. Some had been questioned by police. Some churches had been shut down and they had to relocate.

私達は小さなテーブルを囲んで聖書を開きました。一日数時間、ある時は日に６～８時間学びました。私達は伝道について祈り話し合いました。多くの牧師は日常的に迫害に悩まされていました。ある牧師は警察から質問され、ある教会は閉鎖や移転を余儀なくされるのです。

Was it difficult? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes.

私が誰かに「中国の伝道は難しいですか？」　と聞かれたら、「はい、難しいです」と答えます。もし「それは価値のあることですか」と聞かれたら、「はい、価値のあることです」と答えるのです

Because I saw people who truly wanted to follow Jesus no matter the cost. They were committed to follow Jesus. Spending time with such precious people gave me true joy in heart.

難しくとも価値がある、それは、どんなに困難な状況にあってもイエスに従いたいと心から願う人々と出会えたからです。彼らは命がけでイエスに従っていました。その貴重な人々と共に時間を過ごした私には、真の喜びと安らぎが与えられたのです。

 

Story of the Pastor　ある牧師の話

Here is another story.                                                                                                

One day, I got a call from someone I didn’t know well. He said a man wanted to meet me and work with Baptists. That made me nervous. I knew people are looking for Baptist missionaries. I thought, this could be dangerous. That man could very easily be a spy.

ここである人の話を紹介します。ある日よく知らない人から電話が入りました。彼は、バプテストの人と一緒に働きたいという人がいるというのです。私は不安になりました。当局がバプテストの宣教師を探しているのを知っていたからです。私は危険な目に遭うと感じました。その人はきっとスパイだと思ったのです。

Uneasily, I agreed to meet in a public place—Starbucks. When I arrived, he looked rough and serious. He wasn’t alone. I was thinking, “Is this safe?” I don’t know either of these two guys…

jj私は不安でしたが彼と公の場所で会うことにしました。スターバックスコーヒーショップです。始め彼は厳しく堅い表情でした。彼が一人でなかったので、私は、ここは大丈夫か？この二人の連れを私は知らないし、と思いました。

But when he began to speak, everything changed. He shared that he used to live a life connected to crime—even the mafia. His life was broken. But then he met Jesus. God saved him from something terrible.

しかし彼が話し始めると状況は一変しました。彼はかつてマフィアのようなグループと関わり荒れた生活を送っていましたが、イエスに出会ってそれまでの生活から救われたことを証ししてくれたのです。

As he spoke, I could see it—joy and peace on his face. Now he was a pastor leading two small churches. Even more amazing, his church was sending missionaries to unreached people. God took a man from darkness and made him a leader in His kingdom. He asked me, help me and my church so that we can help others. Although we have a lot of great memories and experiences in China, God closed that chapter of our work and now he has brought us to Japan.

私は話しを続ける彼の顔に喜びと安らぎを見い出しました。彼は現在牧師となり、小さな教会2箇所で指導しているとのことでした。驚くことにその教会ではまだキリストを知らない人々に宣教師を派遣していたのです。神はこの男性を暗闇から救い出して神の国のリーダーとされたのです。彼は私と協力して伝道しようと会いに来たのです。このように私は中国で素晴らしい経験をし、それらは良い思い出となっています。次に神は中国での働きを終えて日本で働くようにと、私達は日本に連れて来られました。

 

Now in Japan　日本での現在

We are learning the language, building relationships, and sharing the Bible. We have several neighbors that are reading the Bible for the first time. We can see small seeds of faith in their hearts.

現在私達は日本語を学び、地域の方々との関係を築いて聖書を学んでいます。始めて聖書を読む方々の心に信仰が芽生えるよう、小さな種を蒔く働きをしています。

And as we follow Jesus, we have joy and peace. We don’t always know where we are going, but we see Jesus working and we follow him. Many of us say, “I believe in Jesus.” But the real question is: Are you following Him?

このようにイエスに従うとは、私達に喜びと安らぎをもたらすのです。私達はどこに行くのかわかりませんが、私達はイエスが働かれるのを見てついていくのです。

Some may have knowledge, but have never truly followed. Jesus is inviting you today. He says, “Follow me.”

ある人には知識があるでしょう、しかしそれは本当には従っているとは言えないのです。イエスは今日、「私についてきなさい」と言われます。

In a world full of confusion and many voices, Jesus gives one clear call: “Follow me.” If you try to save your life, you will lose it. But if you give your life to Him, you will find it. When I lived my own way, I felt empty. But when I followed Jesus, I found purpose, joy, and peace.

この世界は混乱と様々な考えに満ちていますが、イエスはシンプルにはっきりと「私についてきなさい」とだけ言われます。もしあなたが自分の命を救おうと思うならば、あなたはそれを失うのです。しかし、あなたがイエスに人生を捧げるならばそれを得るのです。私は自分の事だけを考え生きていた頃、虚しさを感じていました。しかしイエスに従った時、生きる目的や喜び、安らぎを得るようになったのです。

But we must understand what Jesus truly meant when He said, “Take up your cross.” In Jesus’ time, the cross was not a symbol, it was a death sentence. You were dying to yourself and following Jesus. There is no turning back. There is only surrender to God’s plan for your life.

私達はイエスが言われた「あなたの十字架を負いなさい」という意味を理解する必要があります。イエスの時代、十字架は信条や象徴ではなく、死の宣告に使われる言葉でした。つまり、あなたは死にかけているから私についてきなさいという意味なのです。もう後戻りする道はありません。あなたの人生のために神の計画にお任せするしかないのです。

So when Jesus says, “Take up your cross and follow me,” He is not asking for part of your life. He is asking for all of it. Following Jesus is not adding Him to your life.  It is laying down your life completely. Jesus says clearly: “If you try to save your life, you will lose it. But if you lose your life for me, you will find it.”

イエスが「あなたの十字架を負うて、わたしに従ってきなさい」というのは、あなたの人生の一部のことを言っているのではありません。全てです。イエスをあなたの人生の一部に追加するというのではなく、全てを完全に任せることを言っておられるのです。イエスははっきりと「自分の命を救おうと思う者はそれを失い、私のために自分の命を失う者はそれを見いだすであろう」と言われます。

Do you want to know your purpose for your life? Do you want to live the best life God has intended for you? Jesus says, “Follow me.”

あなたは自分の人生の目的を知りたいとお思いでしょうか。神があなたに望む最良の人生を歩みたいと願っていますか。イエスは「私についてきなさい」と仰います。
